Tightening pedestal bolts, which is not really exciting, but pay attention to the six vertical 1 by 24 inch bolts that hold the side frames together. These long bolts are put in from the bottom, same as they are shown in factory views in the recent Climax book. Climax did this for a reason: Put the nuts on the top, so that the top bars can easiy be removed when a truck gear shaft needs to be replaced! To replace a gear shaft, the top truck bolster, not shown, must be removed, but before this, the top bars on each side frame need to be taken out of the way. If the side frame bolts were fed down from the top, with the nuts on the bottom, removing the bolster would be a major feat.
